Paul Bedal is no stranger to IPI recordings, appearing on two previous tapes. Here Bedal is joined by a wonderful rhythm section of Charles Rumback on drums and Mike Harmon on bass. The music is straight-ahead jazz, which is easy to listen to but has depth and stands up to repeated and enjoyable listening. The session was recorded at Pro Musica Chicago, directly to a custom Studer/Revox 8-track tape recorder through an 8-channel Grace microphone preamp. Microphones were AGK 414 EBs on piano, an Earthworks SV 33 on bass, and two AKG 414 ULS’s on drums. Engineering by Jonathan Horwich and Ken Christianson.
